Frank Whitaker

Noah waited an extra thirty minutes for Frank Whitaker, the personal financial consultant for Loretta Leadwater, and was just about to leave when he wandered in.

“I’m glad you could spend a few minutes with me.” greeted Noah as Mr. Whitaker sat down.

“I’m sorry I’m late Mr. Chung. I met a cute couple on the elevator who needed a financial consultant, so I had to make my pitch and leave them with my card. Hope you didn’t mind.” said Frank.

“Please, call me Noah, Mr. Whitaker. I had high hopes you would be on time but that’s okay.”

“Thank you,” replied Frank, “Just call me Frank and I hope I won’t say something stupid, but then again that’s life.”

“All right, let’s get going,” offered Noah, “Can you fill me in on your background?”

“Sure. I grew up in Chicago, my kind of town, and went to undergraduate college at the University of Michigan. I wanted to do things my way so after graduation I moved to New York, New York. I figured if I could make it there, I could make it anywhere. I got into the personal investment field with my cousin Vinny when we both took a course “Investing for Dummies” at the downtown library and made a ton of money investing other people’s money. Loretta Leadwater heard about me from a friend of a friend and arranged an interview. That went well and she hired me on the spot. “It had to be you,” she told me. I told her the best is yet to come.

“Making money for Loretta was easy since she gave me free rein in making investments. Her IPO made her incredibly rich, and I kept her investments continually growing.”

“Was Loretta satisfied with her portfolio performance?” asked Noah.

“She certainly was. Her growth was consistently in the double digits. She paid me handsomely too.” Frank replied.

“I heard your alibi was you went to a ‘Dali Museum’ last Sunday morning when Loretta died. Tell me about that morning.” Noah prodded.

“Yes, I got up early as I usually do and caught breakfast at a diner on the way to the museum. I arrived as they opened at nine a.m. and was fascinated with the quality and volume of the display: incredible artworks covering Dali’s entire life. I would greatly recommend you see it while you are in town. I stayed until after noon, caught lunch at a downtown bistro, and headed back to the hotel to watch some sports on TV.”

Noah nodded and said, “I did happen to see the museum several years ago. What was your favorite painting?”

“I think it was the one of Abraham Lincoln in the main auditorium.” Replied Frank, rather frankly.

“Thanks, switching topics, what can you tell me about the pendant Loretta always wore?” Noah probed.

“What is there to it?” Frank snapped. “Big, ugly blob of gems hanging around her neck. It looked hideous and if I were her, I would just throw it in the gulf!” The overreaction startled Noah and he made a particular note of the event.
